mortgage

What does the word mortgage mean? It may surprise you.

Mort –
1) a note sounded on a hunting horn when the a deer is killed.
2) killing

Gage –
1) a token of defiance; specifically: a glove or cap cast on the ground to be taken up by an opponent as a pledge of combat.
2) something deposited as a pledge of performance.
3) pledge, stake, or risk.

There isn’t anything about those word meanings that give me a good feeling. How about you?

every-time-you-spend-money

Fact: When you “borrow” money from a bank, the bank doesn’t have the money. You are literally creating the money when you sign the Promissory Note. And they’ve convinced you to pay back your money PLUS interest. What does this mean to you?

Tammy from AK replied: “Well if the devil danced in empty pockets, he’d have a ball in mine. Makes me ambivalent.”

Jim Rohn once asked a simple question:
If you shared your current financial pIan with me would you be so excited about it you’d want me to go around the country and share it with everyone I met?

Whose plan did you buy?
Is it working?
If not, why?

“Emergencies”
Do you borrow on credit cards to handle them?

The map is not the territory.
Your financial plan (or map) is a guide. It’s not your life.

drum

1) Resist conformity.
2) Born into contrast that appears to be conformity.
3) Why the world needs your uniqueness.

Quote:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson

What is it about memories that make them so damn popular? They take me back to a feeling I once had. Feel that again? Pick it up off the shelf and play it like an old VHS tape. Why? Because I’m bored or in need of entertainment? Am I unhappy with what I’m living right now? Have I ever wondered why I play these tapes over and over again?

Some say we’re reminiscing. Others say we’re biologically built to recall for current survival. I say we’re fucking bored. We’re remembering because we can’t stand what’s in front of us right now.

We look out into the world and constantly long for things to be different.
We compare now to then. We compare now to when. We compare now to if.
Why can’t we be happy with now? Why do we procrastinate joy, happiness, and letting our hair down in front of other people?

We’re scared to death. We lack the courage to put down all the camouflage life has taught us to create, carry, consume, and pretend to be.

Holy shit. Is life one big game of hide and seek? You better believe it is. And I’m not talking about the game children play. I’m talking about hiding who we really are and at the same schizophrenic time seeking who we think we should be. Wait, maybe those children playing hide and seek are really practicing for the way we adults do it.

And we wonder why the pharmaceutical industry is the most profitable business on the planet. 6 billion humans most of which have no clue why they’re here, who they are, or what happiness really smells like.

I’ve got news for you cowboy, happiness smells like whatever the hell you decide to grow in your own damn garden. Stop stepping on my roses, telling me how to pick my weeds, and spraying chemicals on my plants. Tend your own plot.

Some days it sickens me to hear others trapped in the illusion of victimhood. Others insisting to the point of death that their identity is who/what someone else told them they are or should be. And other days I thank them for the mirror they provide. So I can remember when I insisted on doing the same.

I wax poetic and see beauty in the world, yes. I remember there’s also ugly and cold. They’re both the same thing. Stop the madness of trying to separate it all into different little pieces. Is our mission here one of boredom? Is our mission here one of remembering? Or is our mission here one of pure, unadulterated, mindless entertainment? I haven’t a clue. But some days and in some ways it can be a hoot.

So dear fellow traveler. What is it about memories that make them so damn popular? Do they take you back to a feeling you once had, that you want to feel again? Maybe we’re bored and remembering because we can’t stand what’s in front of us right now. Longing for what once was and hoping for what could be. It leaves you eviscerated, empty, and quite possibly pissed off at the broken promises of some God.

The fairy tale we were spoon fed since birth that says there is rhyme and reason to all this madness. If you could would you kick the devil in the balls and steal his lunch money? Basking in your short lived revenge for the torture he puts you through as he grins thru bleached white, porcelain teeth?

I say, dear traveler, why can’t there be order in chaos? Sanity in madness?
Love and hate all at the same time?
What if we’re all of it and nothing….in the same instant?
God and the devil all wrapped up in one sanitized little package.

I’ve got NEWS for you cowboy, happiness smells like whatever the hell you decide to grow in your own damn garden.

ignorant

This episode is inspired by the stand up comedy bit “What” by
Bo Burnham.

Let’s take a trip in the theatre of your mind. A trip to an alternate reality where you stop learning and start earning. But there’s a catch. Once you start earning, you never get to learn anything else ever again.

Questions:
– What if you got paid to be ignorant?
– If your bank account was based on how many books you read a year (and I don’t mean fiction), would you have some zeros or a comma maybe?
– Would you stop learning just to get a check?
– Would it be enough for you to stay ignorant of who you really are, what you’re really capable of if you got paid to not know?
– What if instead of paying schools to put information into your head, you got paid to never put information into your head?
– What if being an avid reader, searcher, & learner meant you stayed financially poor the rest of your life? You’d always have food, clothing, shelter, medicine but you’d never have more money than what you have today.
– Would you want to get paid to stay ignorant?

Society tells you the more you learn (about it’s world) the more you earn (it’s money).

-What if the less you learn (about societies world) the more you earn? Earn in awareness. Earn in self discovery. Earn in deeper inner standing of your true self.
– What if less (of the world) is more (of you)?

email

We recently got an email from a listener Greg Garcia:

“Hi, Greg, I’ve been listening to your podcast for about the past year, And the teachings you have taught me have awakened me. I discovered you when i was getting into debt, I  had accumulated about 12k by the age of 22, (24 now) with about 4 years of establish credit. And then I took a hard look at things I had bought, amounting to clothes, eating out, and buying items that did not better me.

Long story short I realized I needed change. I started researching and learning how to take care of myself financially and started making moves. As of right now my revolving balance is at 500 hundred dollars. After paying my debt off I started to question my actions, my motives, my decision making, and just overall how I think.”

Recent material I’ve consumed:
Video – Russell Brand: Messiah Complex
Book – The Deep Self: Consciousness Exploration in The Isolation Tank by John Lilly.
