Before you pay retail on your next purchase think about finding the item used. There are lots of folks out there who have slightly used items for sale that would love to help you out. Craigslist is a great place to start. There’s also yard and garage sales.

You accomplish a few things buying used:

1) Help environment by not creating a demand for new products.
2) Help the seller get money they need and create more space.
3) Keep money and resources in your local community.
4) You save money.

Before you buy used another thing to consider is, “Can I make it myself?” You can usually accomplish quite a bit with a few simple tools. Don’t go nuts and buy a bunch of power tools. Ask family/friends to borrow if needed. Most hardware stores will cut your lumber for you. Just make sure you have all your measurements with you when you go this route.

Think about what services you can trade/barter for what you need. It’s the way they used to do it in the old days. Get used to it because you’re going to need these skills in the very near future.

I’m always thinking of ways to make a little extra money. I like to browse craigslist once in a while to see what’s out there & how I can offer my services to people in my area.

The idea for an interview or book review hit me so I went to Amazon.com and searched for “craigslist.” The first book I found is The Craigslist Hustle by LaJuan Stoxstill-Diggs. And what are the odds? He’s from my area!

This is a 35 page Kindle book. Soup & crackers. No fluff. No hype. It’s simple, easy to read language on how to buy an item on craigslist in your local area. And then you immediately re-list it on craigslist and sell it in a short period of time.

If you have zero cash to get started, there’s good news. Check out craigslist “For Sale” section. Then browse the subsection “Free Stuff.” You’d be surprised what people give away. You have to be willing to go pick it up as these items can go quickly.

Be sure to get the 2013 revision with new info on how to flip (buy and re-sell) washers & dryers. Evidently these are one of the hottest items on craigslist. People need a good washer/dryer set more than they need a 40″ flat screen TV, right? No need to worry. You can use the ideas in this book to buy/re-sell any item you choose.

Practical & affordable reading at less than $10.00, this book delivers the goods. Read it and get started ASAP. No system to buy, no multi-level marketing, no CD’s or software. The author dishes it out as promised. And he has a few youtube videos to add to the flavor. I’ve already bought the book and am working on my Craigslist Hustle. I recommend you do the same.
